Srikanth Kandragula Urges Support for Soothravakyam Amid Ongoing Discussions

Srikanth Kandragula, the producer of the upcoming Malayalam film Soothravakyam, has appealed to the public to support the film and acknowledge the effort behind it, following recent allegations made against lead actor Shine Tom Chacko by co-star Vincy Aloshious.

Aloshious formally submitted complaints to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), alleging inappropriate behavior and suspected drug use by Chacko during the film’s production. While the incident has attracted attention, Kandragula urged audiences to evaluate the film on its own merit rather than allowing individual controversies to define it.

“We’ve invested an incredible amount of time, energy, and heart into Soothravakyam. The story deserves to be seen, discussed, and experienced for what it offers, beyond the distractions,” said Kandragula. “I stand by every single member of our team and am proud of what we’ve created together.”

He emphasized the importance of distinguishing between the actions of an individual and the collaborative work of an entire film crew. Kandragula also acknowledged that the audience’s concern around such matters is valid, but encouraged a balanced perspective.

“It’s easy to let headlines cloud judgment. But a film represents the work of many — writers, designers, assistants, technicians, and actors alike. Their efforts should not be overshadowed by one individual’s alleged conduct,” he said.

Kandragula, who is not originally from Kerala, described his deep respect for the Malayalam film industry. He said his involvement with Soothravakyam stemmed from a strong admiration for its storytelling sensibilities and emotional depth.

“What drew me to Malayalam cinema is its authenticity. It doesn’t shy away from emotion or complexity. That’s what inspired me to come on board this project — and I genuinely believe audiences will connect with this narrative if they give it a fair chance.”

As the situation continues to draw media coverage, further developments have emerged, including CCTV footage that appears to show Shine Tom Chacko leaving a hotel during a narcotics operation by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF). While Chacko was previously acquitted in a 2015 drug case, Kerala Excise Minister M.B. Rajesh recently criticized the case’s handling, pointing to investigation flaws.

The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) praised Vincy Aloshious for her courage in stepping forward, highlighting growing concerns about drug abuse and professional safety in the Malayalam film sector.

Kandragula remains hopeful that the attention around the issue will not impact the film’s reception unfairly. He called for viewers to support Soothravakyam for its vision and for the hardworking team behind it.

“This film is more than a project. It’s a shared dream, built through creative collaboration. I urge the audience to give this film a chance, and help spotlight the genuine talent and effort behind it,” he added.

Soothravakyam is set for release later this year.
